Release
Archyv 1.7.1
A follow-up to 1.7.0, with two more speed improvements and a set of small fixes from testing.
Faster with Canon CR3 files
Archyv now reads the metadata in Canon CR3 raw files roughly one and a half to two times faster, everywhere it reads them. Large CR3 folders get ready sooner when you choose a process and when you press Start.
Faster date sorting for photos with sidecar files
Sorting by capture date could be slow in folders where many photos keep their details in sidecar files. Those photos are now read in groups rather than one at a time. On a test folder of 650 such photos, sorting went from about seven minutes to under a minute.
Smaller fixes
- Apply works on the first click. In the Metadata Editor, a value you typed sometimes needed a second click on Apply before it was staged. One click is now enough, and the same goes for Add and Insert.
- Practice runs no longer rename your file list. After a Simulation Mode run of Manual Renaming or File Sort, the file list showed the names the files would get, as if they had been renamed. It now keeps their real names.
- The “Reading files ahead” count reaches the total. It now shows the full count, for example “1,000 of 1,000”, for a moment before it clears, instead of stopping just short. On large folders it no longer starts over partway through.
- Every process shows its counts when it finishes. The completion screen for Species Tagging and Photographer Attribution now shows how many files were processed, skipped and failed, like the other processes. Files that Strict file protection held back are counted as skipped.
- A practice run’s log no longer lingers. When you start the real run straight after a Simulation Mode rehearsal, the log now starts fresh.
- File Sort’s template menu matches what runs. The menu showed a template that Start then didn’t use. It now always shows the template that will run.
What to do: nothing. Install the update and work as usual.
