Release
Archyv 1.6.1
A fix release. There are no new features, and nothing about how you work changes.
Your other-language text is kept
Some fields can hold the same text in several languages, such as Description, Title, Copyright Notice and Rights Usage Terms. Saving one of them in the Metadata Editor used to delete every language except the one Archyv wrote. A save now changes only the default text and leaves the other languages as they were. Clearing a field still removes it in every language.
Command-A in a text box selects the text
Pressing Command-A while you are typing in a box, for example in the Metadata Editor, now selects that box’s text, as it does in any other Mac app. It used to tick every file in the Files list instead. When no box is being typed in, Command-A still ticks every file.
Cleaner metadata in PNG, HEIC and other modern formats
- PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC and CR3 files have no place for the older IPTC block that JPEG and TIFF use. Saving in the Metadata Editor or running Photographer Attribution used to create one anyway, which other apps report as non-standard. Archyv now writes those details to XMP only, where these formats keep them. A field you save also has its leftover copy removed from a block an earlier version of Archyv created.
- Image Conversion with Keep IPTC/XMP Only, converting to PNG, HEIC, AVIF or JPEG XL, now translates the photo’s older IPTC details into XMP. Before, a PNG received a non-standard block, and HEIC, AVIF and JPEG XL files lost any detail that was held only in the older block.
The Metadata Editor sees changes made in other apps
If you change a photo’s metadata in another program while Archyv is open, the Metadata Editor now shows the new values, and Batch Add judges whether a photo already has a value from the file as it is now. Before, it kept showing the values from when the folder was first read until you quit and reopened Archyv. Refresh now also re-reads every file’s metadata.
Smaller fixes
- Saving a date on a video or RAW file in the Metadata Editor now updates both date copies in its sidecar file, so another app reading the sidecar sees the new date.
- In a process’s run log, the per-file results list now starts on its own line instead of being joined to the end of the “Duration” line.
What to do: nothing. Install the update and work as usual.
