Release

Archyv 1.6.2

A fix release, mostly for people who process thousands of files at once. There are no new features, and nothing about how you work changes.

No more freezing on very large runs

A run over many thousands of files could make Archyv stop responding, with the Log Summary panel growing until the app froze. The panel now shows the most recent lines of the log (up to 200), with a note above it such as “Showing the latest 200 lines — Copy Log copies everything”. Copy Log still copies the complete log, and the run report and Processing History still record every file. Short runs look exactly as before.

When the Log Summary panel appears over a log that is already there, it now opens at the newest line instead of at the top.

Faster start for Metadata Editor batches with protected fields

With field protection on (it is on by default), pressing Start on a large Metadata Editor batch could leave the app unresponsive for minutes while it checked which photos already had protected values. That check now runs in the background and shows its progress as “Checking protected fields”, and it reads your photos in groups rather than one at a time, so getting a large batch started takes less than half as long as it did. Which photos are treated as protected is unchanged.

Photos with slightly damaged camera data can be saved

Some photos, often from older cameras, carry camera-maker data that is slightly damaged. Saving metadata to them used to fail with an error. Archyv now tries such a save once more in a way that lets it through, leaving out only the damaged camera data. Files with more serious problems still fail and are reported as before. This applies to every process that writes metadata.

What to do: nothing. Install the update and work as usual.
